Diamonds are a girls best friend

I spent the weekend at my cousins' (more like my sister) helping her start on her nursery for her 1st baby! She told me she wanted bold pinks and a harlequin wall. I had always wanted to do a wall like that for my 5 year old. But at the time that I was doing her room I was 6 months pregnant with my 1 1/2 year old and ended up in the hospital (post on that story) with only getting her walls painted.
Enough about me....it's all about little Ave Jillian! (notice that her middle name is after me??)

I started by painting 2 walls the base color.

Then I was lucky enough to find this website:
It took the guess work out of how to calculate the size of the diamonds. All you do is type in the height and width of the room and how many rows you want of diamonds and it tells you the measurement of the diamonds. On the same page there is a link to give instructions on how to draw and tape your design. BIG help....and now the work begins.

I started by using my level to draw vertical and horizontal lines to make rectangles. Those rectangles are where my diamond would go.

I had a bit of a hard time at first because the baseboard wasn't level. I didn't want all of the pattern to end up crooked, so I stayed level with my first line at the bottom, instead of keeping the line 18" from the baseboard.
It didn't show up well in the pic, but its there

Then I started taping. You will start by painting every other diamond (I'm sure there are other ways, but this is  the method I used)
And then when that dries, you will tape out the remainder of the diamonds. I didn't get that far, so I will finish next weekend.

I hand painted one of the diamonds just to see them together

I can't wait to finish! I'm so impatient when it comes to seeing results!!
I would do anything for my cousin and that little baby to come :-)

I have to warn anyone who wants to attempt this:
It is very time consuming, very tedious, and you my say a curse word or two along the way....
but the result are worth it!!

You can see the paint still wet on the right

UPDATE: YOU CAN SEE THE FINISHED ROOM HERE

Thanks for stopping by!
