FUNKY FRENCH
Well I feel like I have been slacking in the blogging department, but for some reason I keep starting these projects....while trying to plan my daughters 1st birthday party. So I thought that I would do a little post on the cute little french provincial desk that I recently redid while taking a break from staining the deck (it's lookin' like it's gonna rain, ugh!)
SOLD!!!! |
I sanded the desk to get (most of) the paint off and sanded the top until the shiny part of the veneer was removed. Put a coat of primer, 3 coats of blue, 3 coats of pink and although it doesn't show....that back is painted lime green. After all was dry, I put 2 coats of polycrylic gloss on the desk but put 3 coats on the top. I have been looking for either a french fashion magazine, french newspaper, or a french book that I could use to line the drawers. I think that would make it stand out....(sarcasm haha) If I'm not able to find paper to line the drawers I will probably use wrapping paper.
I also painted the outsides of the drawer and the top of the drawer front green. When I took the pictures of it, I put it in my daughters room and she said "just keep it right there, I think it's perfect!" What you don't see is that I had to move her chest of drawers to the middle of the room and everything that she had on it! You could hardly get into her drawers....but she said she didn't care. Well, for those of you who don't know my 5 year old daughter, she changes her outfit 5 times a day and I think she would be lost without access to her clothes HAHA!
Let me know what you think, and thanks for stopping by!
I'll be linking this to Miss Mustard Seeds furniture feature Friday!
I also wanted to tell you about my junk (free, falling apart, and fabulous!) shopping spree last weekend.....
I first found 2 antique chairs (I post pics soon) that were leftover from an estate sale that I jumped right on! I had also found 2 matching, solid wood end tables that need very little TLC that I planned on picking up on my way home from getting the chairs. When I got to the (super nice!!!) ladies house, she had the tables set aside for me but said that since I mentioned that I refinish furniture, she also set aside a beautiful, very heavy, antique dining table! It was like hitting the jack pot! I haven't attempted to do shabby chic but I definitely am going for the distressed look on this one, and can't wait! I also told her about my 1800's steamer trunk, found for $10 on Craigslist (seen here at the bottom of the post). Well, I decided to restore it after doing some research on it. She told me that she has 2 of them and when I am finished with mine to send her some pictures and if she likes it.....she'll have me do hers! Gotta love a job opportunity!
I feel like good things are on the way!
AND MY LITTLE PREEMIE (check her out here!) HAS FIGURED OUT HOW TO WALK ALL OVER! Let the fun begin!!! Can't wait for her big b-day party this weekend!
The sun is shining now and I think I'll try to get a little more staining done so I'll post pics of all my finds and the cool things going on soon!
Busy, busy, busy, but fun, fun, fun! I cannot wait to see what you do with your great finds. Blessings!
