Thank God for great inspiration!! AND old chairs!

Well about a month ago or so, I had linked up to Miss Mustard Seeds furniture feature Friday. Of course, I had to look through all of the great pieces that also linked up. I love seeing what other DYIer's come up with, as I'm sure so do most of us....and sometimes I see something that I just HAVE to do myself!!! So when I clicked on this picture I went NUTS over this chair (so did the rest of blog land!!). This chair was featured on many blogs and it deserved it! It was done by Two Thirty-five Designs and if you haven't already seen it, be prepared to be knock out!

SOLD!!

DON'T YA LOVE IT!!!

If your not already following her blog....you must!

Thanks Allison for sharing this!

So now I'll share the makeover that I did :-)

This is a chair that was left over (unwanted) from an estate sale. When I talked to the lady on the phone she said "if you get here and don't want them don't feel bad, you don't have to take them." Well I knew that I didn't have to see them to know that I would take them anyway. (The second chair is completely different and I am still trying to decide what to do with it....future post)
So, drum roll........

NO NEED TO SAY "BEFORE" HUH???

I THINK IT'S SEEN BETTER DAYS!

IT WAS THE PAWS THAT MADE ME FALL IN LOVE <3

I have breathed new life into her again and she can go on living......

LOVE THE PAW EVEN MORE NOW!!

I KNOW THIS IS A STRANGE ANGLE, BUT I THINKS IT'S A COOL PICTURE ;-)

FOR THE PROCESS....

THE LEGS HAD SOME CRACKS IN THEM, AND EVEN SOME HUNKS OF WOOD MISSING. NOTHING A LITTLE WOOD GLUE AND WOOD FILLER COULDN'T FIX

I HAD TO MAKE A NEW EDGE HERE

THE WHOLE THING WAS DISGUSTING!!

BUT LOOK CLOSER....IT'S AN OLD FEATHER PILLOW THAT WAS PUT THERE TO FILL IN THE SEAT...IT WAS IS VERY BAD CONDITION!! (I KNOW SOME PEOPLE REALLY LOVE THESE PILLOWS....BUT IT WAS NASTY!!!!)

I'M PRETTY SURE SOME OF WHAT I FOUND IN HERE COULD BE CONSIDERED A HEALTH HAZARD, LOL

I DID EACH PART IN SECTIONS EVEN THOUGH I WAS REPLACING EVERYTHING TO MAKE IT EASIER TO KNOW HOW TO PUT IT BACK TOGETHER.

GABRIELLA DOUBLE CHECKING MY MEASUREMENTS ;-)

THERE WAS ACTUALLY MOLD ON THE WEBBING IN THE BACK...YUCK!!!

SO AFTER SOME WOOD GLUE, WOOD FILLER, A COUPLE COATS OF KILZ, AND GLOSSY RED PAINT, NEW FOAM, NEW BATTING AND DACRON, NEW WEBBING,
AND NEW FABRIC.....ALL IT NEEDS IS A NEW HOME!!!!

before and after

Thanks again to Two Thirty-five Designs!

  3. Perfect! I like yours even better than the original inspiration. Love, love, LOVE the claws. Where did you find your fabric? I'm getting ready to do a chair and a bench, and cannot commit to a fabric yet... it's so hard to find one you love, but this, I love.

  16. This chair is AMAZING! I love it. I have to admit that upholstery sort of scares me...but you've made it look so beautiful. Did the person who bought it know what it looked like before? haha
